Outside the classroom
Theatre, cinema, sports, astronomy, radio, journalism, citizenship...at the UC you will find a unique extracurricular offer. You may participate in over one hundred cultural and scientific events, one of which being the "Queima das Fitas" - the students festival which takes place in May - and you will be a member of the largest and most important students' union in Portugal: Associação Académica de Coimbra (AAC).
Spaces such as the Botanical Garden, the Gil Vicente Academic Theatre Hall, the University Stadium, the Science Museum, the Academic Museum, AAC and the tourist route are crucial in the integration of new students in the city and in the University.
Opening the books when it is time to study and closing them when it is time to have fun makes Coimbra the ideal city for you to fully live academic life and everything it has to offer. From the Serenata Monumental (Monumental Serenade) to the well-known academic festivities, in Coimbra, friendships and moments are marked by the sound of the University tower bell (named “cabra” ), making this an unforgettable experience. Strongly influenced by one of the largest students' union in the world, AAC, due to its vitality and tradition, the academy turns Coimbra into the true city of students.
In addition to academic life, the Cultural Week of the University of Coimbra is unique in our country. Involving the entire University and several non-university cultural structures, the Cultural Week seeks a great connection with the city, the discovery of the University and a programme for all types of public.
You will also have the opportunity to participate in The UC Volunteer Programme which embraces, in a systemic way and anchored in values of promotion of dignity and sustainable development, several initiatives that aim to stimulate the participation of students in different activities (directed to the academic community and / or to the city) with the aim of ensuring comprehensive training.
You have at your disposal support projects by peers, projects for the transformation and encouragement of creativity, solidarity and social intervention projects, among others.
From Coimbra you will carry for life the experiences you live and the friends you make, both in the classroom as well as outside of it. Something which you will never forget.
