28th UC Cultural Week: An invitation to a Plural Celebration of Beauty
Proposal submissions are open until 30 October, under the theme "Beauty"
The 28th UC Cultural Week will take place from 1 to 15 March 2026, as an invitation to a plural celebration of Beauty. “Beauty is one of the themes that touches most directly on human nature—something to which we are all sensitive, both aesthetically and morally,” said Delfim Leão, Vice-Rector for Culture, Communication, and Open Science at the University of Coimbra.
Leão adds that "It was crucial to select such a theme for 2026 — that's when the work on the Schools Courtyard and the Royal Palace will be completed. Spaces that will regain a splendour and beauty unseen for decades." However, that is not the only motivation, the Vice-Rector explains. “It will also serve to advance an idea the Rector has emphasised as central to his strategy for the region: launching the concept of the ‘Coimbra Bauhaus’, based on principles of beauty, inclusion, and well-being.”
Beauty is thus seen both as a heritage of the past and as a driver of future innovation, inspiring expressions in a wide variety of forms.
Delfim Leão hopes that the initiatives presented during SCUC 2026 will “stimulate positive feelings, highlight the best in humanity, and ultimately show that life is worth living and that we all have a part to play in making it better.”
