“Detectives of Emotions: Unified Protocol for Children (PU-C)” is a group intervention program for children aged 6 to 12 that aims to provide transdiagnostic treatment for emotional disorders (i.e., anxiety and/or depressive disorders) through joint work with parents and children.
This program was originally developed in the US, and previous studies attest to its effectiveness in reducing anxiety and depressive symptoms in children. A team of researchers from the Center for Research in Neuropsychology and Cognitive-Behavioral Interventions at the University of Coimbra (CINEICC), a research unit of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the University of Coimbra, sought to study the effectiveness of this intervention in Portugal.
As part of a doctoral project, a pilot study was launched in 2020 with the main objective of studying the reliability of this intervention for Portugal, and a randomized controlled trial was conducted to study the effectiveness of this intervention for Portugal.
The research team recruited children (aged 6 to 12 with emotional disorders) and their parents to participate in this project. Participants in this project benefited from this intervention free of charge in COIMBRA and VISEU, facilitated by clinical psychologists and researchers from the project's research team.
