“When the Mirror is Wrong” is a psychological intervention program for adults with symptoms of Body Dysmorphic Disorder, conducted in groups and in a hybrid format.
This project aims to improve diagnostic and treatment responses for adults with symptoms of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. This disorder is characterized by excessive concern with one or more bodily defects and the presence of repetitive acts in response to this concern (e.g., hiding, checking in the mirror, altering appearance), and can be extremely debilitating. Despite this, there were still no specialized responses to this problem in Portugal.
Thus, MIND-over-MIRROR, a group psychological intervention program, was developed. It consists of nine weekly 90-minute sessions and has a hybrid format, with face-to-face sessions taking place at UpC3.
