Stories of a Changing World: Exhibit Sheds Light on Climate Change Narratives
In an age where climate change and environmental degradation pose significant challenges to our planet, initiatives that promote awareness and inspire action are more crucial than ever. One such initiative is the exhibit "Stories of a Changing World," a journey into the narratives of scientists from around the globe who are dedicated to understanding and addressing these pressing issues.
Curated by Vasco Mantas, the country coordinator of GLOBE Portugal, and supported by the eoLab, this exhibit brings together the voices of over 20 scientists from reference institutions such as NASA, the University of Coimbra, the University of Waterloo, USGS, and Texas A&M. Through their stories, visitors gain insights into the multifaceted aspects of climate change and environmental degradation, ranging from melting ice caps to extreme weather events and biodiversity loss.
Despite the gravity of the challenges depicted, "Stories of a Changing World" offers an optimistic message rooted in the power of collective action. By showcasing the dedication and innovation of scientists worldwide, the exhibit highlights the potential for positive change when communities, governments, and individuals unite in pursuit of sustainability and resilience.
After its successful premiere in Alcobaça, made possible with the support of CESUCA and the County of Alcobaça, the exhibit has recently found a new home in Torres Vedras. This transition marks the beginning of its journey across the country, as it embarks on an itinerary aimed at reaching diverse audiences and fostering dialogue about the urgent need for environmental stewardship.
GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) plays a central role in this initiative. As a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based science and education program, GLOBE empowers students and teachers to actively engage in environmental data collection and research. By integrating GLOBE's educational resources and network into the exhibit, "Stories of a Changing World" not only informs but also inspires the next generation of environmental stewards.
"Stories of a Changing World" serves as a poignant reminder of our shared responsibility to safeguard the planet for future generations. Through education, collaboration, and collective action, we can turn the tide on climate change and build a more sustainable and resilient world for all.
