CGEO around the world

  • International academic bodies, main international structures and projects (IUGS and IGCP, CIPSH and WHC, UISPP, REALP), Master and PhD programs (in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Cape Verde, including Erasmus Mundus PhD and Masters), direct interaction with UNESCO (2 UNESCO chairs, close interaction with Geoparks or MOST programs).
  • Close cooperation with several private companies designing geotechnical contextualized solutions.
  • CGEO was pioneer in discussions and implementation of the Geoparks UNESCO programme, and hosts a chair on this topic, at UTAD, a clear example of integration of geosciences and sciences and knowledge at large.
  • It is also the basis of the European Apheleia strategic partnership, coordinated by IPT, with UNESCO from 2016 and from 2018 with a UNESCO chair.
  • Together with the collaboration with the IGP, it integrated the steering committee of UNESCO’s project on SuS, which revised its principles fully in line with CGEO approach: new capacities, critical analysis and foresight, systems thinking, changing environments, risks and insecurity, recognize and address diverse values, conflicts of goals and interests.
  • Further results include the translation into Portuguese of the International Chronostratigraphic Chart (ICS-IUGS), several activities under the aim of the National Committee for the IGCP and the co-organization of several international congresses (UISPP world congress in Burgos, 2014; CPLP Geological Congress in Coimbra, 2016; 15th International Symposium on Water-Rock Interaction - WRI-15 in Évora, 2016; 35th International Geological Congress in Cape Town, 2016; World Humanities Conference in Liège, 2017; International UISPP Conference on Hillforts in Guimarães, 2017; MinWat2017 – International Multidisciplinary Conference on Mineral Waters in Luso, 2017, XXII Bienal de la Real Sociedad Española de Historia Natural in Coimbra, 2017, Apheleia yearly seminars with UNESCO in Mação since 2014, among others).
