    The Chemical Process Engineering and Forest Products Research Centre (CIEPQPF) was established in 1994 with the objective of creating a structured framework for the research activities in the Chemical Engineering Department (DEQ) of FCTUC. These research activities are currently organised in 4 research groups:

    1. Particles, Polymers and Biomaterials Technology (PPB);
    2. Process Systems Engineering (GEPSI);
    3. Computation and Materials (CeM);
    4. Environment, Reaction, Separation and Thermodynamics (GERST).

    As part of its mission, CIEPQPF supports the scientific and technical training in the field of Chemical Engineering, both at the undergraduate or graduate levels, while also strengthening the provision of services and participation in activities involving the surrounding society. In this context, the research developed at the Centre has been concerned in particular with the Portuguese Industry needs, having increased the number of projects in collaboration with domestic industries as well as the provision of services to them.

    In 2014, CIEPQPF was evaluated by an international panel as Very Good (22/25). In 2019, it counts with a total of 158 members:

    • 74 integrated researchers holding a doctoral degree;
    • 58 junior researchers (34 PhD students and 24 other junior researchers of projects funded by FCT, by the European Union or by the private sector);
    • 26 collaborators from other institutions.
