Biografia
Catarina A. Gomes is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra. From 2013 until 2018 Catarina was an Invited Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and Pathophysiology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra. Catarina has been leading a research group working on the hypothesis that conditions (namely stress or environmental factors) that affect the immune cells of the nervous system, microglia, during development, subsequently disturb neuronal physiology, ultimately leading to neuropsychiatric disorders throughout life. The group proposes that sex differences in microglia cells underlie differences in the differential clinical presentation of several brain disorders between men and women.
