| O Bem inscrito na Lista do Património Mundial compreende um conjunto de edifícios cuja história está ou esteve intimamente associada à instituição académica, quer participando no processo de produção e divulgação de conhecimento, quer contribuindo para a construção das tradições culturais e identitárias singulares. As duas zonas inscritas contabilizam 35,5 hectares, dos quais 29 correspondem à Alta e 6,5 à Sofia. A envolver estas áreas estende-se a zona de protecção com 81,5 hectares. O total da área do Bem perfaz 117 hectares. A definição cartográfica destas zonas partiu do estudo da história da Universidade, enquanto motor na organização da cidade ao originar, ao longo do tempo, a criação de unidades morfológicas que se consubstanciam em duas áreas distintas — a Rua da Sofia e a Alta Universitária. | | The Property inscribed in the World Heritage List is called University of Coimbra — Alta and Sofia. It is composed of a set of buildings whose history has been associated to the academic institution, either through participation in the process of knowledge production and dissemination, or through contribution to the creation of unique cultural and identitarian traditions. The University of Coimbra — Alta and Sofia has a total area of 35,5 hectares, 29 of which correspond to the Alta and 6,5 to Sofia. Surrounding these areas there is the protection zone with 81,5 hectares. The total area of the Property is 117 hectares. Considering that this is a nomination of the University of Coimbra, we should mention the key role that this institution has had in the organisation of the city throughout time, contributing for the edification of two morphological units in two different areas of the city — Rua da Sofia (in the downtown area) and the Alta Universitária (the university surroundings in the uptown area). |
