Síntese do Projeto: Nematodes of the genus Meloidogyne (root-knot nematodes, RKN) are highly pathogenic with high impact on agricultural areas and few chances of control. Since management strategies, based on synthetic nematicides pose environmental problems, there is scope for the use of natural nematicides. Recently, it was found that naphthoquinones showed high nematicidal activity against Meloidogyne. A new, sustainable and integrated strategy for RKN management, through the use of fully degradable-in-soil bionematicide delivery systems, based on film-coated biodegradable plastic mulches with naphthoquinones, will be developed, leading to a tomato crop protection more eco-friendly. The information gathered will also contribute to improve other economically important horticultural crops. The acquired knowledge and technologies will be transferred to researchers, agro-chemicals companies, farmers, public and private organisms and students.
