Since 1998 the Celtic Conference in Classics (CCC) has rotated among universities in Britain, France and Ireland. In 2017 it expanded into Québec, Canada, and in 2019 to Portugal.
The CCC includes upwards of 20 panels on broad topics in Classics (Greco-Roman history, philosophy, literature, archaeology, reception) with roughly 15-20 presenters for each panel. This allows each panel to explore in depth fundamental questions in classical studies. Essentially, 20 large-scale conferences on major research topics in Classics occur simultaneously. Specialist panels are open to experts from other subject-areas and scholars from different national traditions are encouraged to build international academic networks among their home institutions in order to foster future collaboration.
The CCC is a democratic, inclusive organization open to students of Greco-Roman society and culture at all levels from doctoral upwards.
The CCC is conceived as an in-person event. For the 2025 conference proposals to present remotely will not be accepted, though it is recognized that health and transport issues may sometimes mean that papers originally accepted for presentation in person may have to be presented remotely. These cases must be reported to the organizers at least 48 hours in advance.
Equally, virtual attendance by non-speakers will not be possible. All plenary sessions, however, will be broadcast live on CECH's YouTube channel and will be available for later viewing.
