Associate Professor at the Department of History, Archaeology and Arts at the University of Coimbra, in Portugal. Main areas of interest: Theatre and Performance Studies, Modern and Contemporary Drama. He is the Course Director of the PhD Programme in Art Studies/Estudos Artísticos of the University of Coimbra and the Director of Teatro Académico de Gil Vicente of the University of Coimbra (from 2012 to 2023).

Biografia

He has been publishing essays on theatre, performance and literature in several portuguese and international journals (Performance Research; Theatre, Dance and Performance Training; Arti dello Spettacolo/Performing Arts Journal; Santa Barbara Portuguese Studies;Art Teatral; Sala Preta; Sinais de Cena; Revista de História da Arte; Colóquio/Letras). He is the author of ¿O Destino da Mimese: Teatro Português Moderno¿ (1997), ¿Teatralidades. 12 Percursos pelo Território do Espetáculo¿ (2003) and ¿Poesia e Metromania. Inscrições Setecentistas¿ (2008). He has edited journal issues dealing with theatre and performance studies, namely ¿Portuguese Performance Art¿ (Revista de História da Arte, Nº 6, 2017) ¿Dramaturgies of Exile, Dramaturgies of Resistance¿ (Revista de Comunicação e Linguagens, Nº 50, 2019). He has been the editor of the following anthologies and thematic volumes: ¿Escritos sobre Teatro¿ (Writings on Theatre, by António Pedro, 2001); ¿Conceitos e Dispositivos de Criação em Artes Performativas¿ (Concepts and Dispositifs of Creation in the Performing Arts¿, 2017); ¿Ensaios Ruminantes sobre a Obra Performativa de Patrícia Portela¿ (Ruminant Essays on the Performative Work of Patrícia Portela, 2017, with Thiago Arrais) and ¿Práticas de Arquivo em Artes Performativas¿ (Archive Practices in Performing Arts, with C. Madeira and H. Marçal, 2019); Theatre About Science. Theory and Practice (with M. Montenegro, M. Cruz, S. Amaral, F. Moreira, 2022). As the Director of TAGV (2012-2023) he has been supporting creative work within the university environment, promoting several practice-led research PhD¿s since 2010, namely in the activities developed in the context of LIPA - Laboratory of Research and Artistic Practices. He is also member of CEIS20 ¿ Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares), where he is currently leading the research group "Artistic Practices: Imagination, Materialities, Transitions" and co-leads, with Vânia Rodrigues, the project "Modes of Production - Performing Arts in Transition".
