PhD candidate Cleide Costa, from the Doctoral Programme in Sustainable Energy Systems, received the “Most Outstanding Scientific Presentation During the Session on the Development of Strategies and Implementation” award at the ICERA 2025 – International Conference on Circular Economy, Renewable Energies and Green Hydrogen in Africa, held in Windhoek, Namibia, on 21–22 October 2025.

Her presentation, “Methodology to Assess Circularity Strategies in the Construction Sector in Angola”, proposed a methodology to assess circularity strategies within Angola’s construction sector.

Beyond the technical aspects related to circular-economy principles and the need for a comprehensive diagnosis to identify challenges and opportunities, Cleide emphasized the importance of collaboration and inclusion.

“The transition from a linear to a circular economy will only be possible if we leave no one behind; we share one world.”

Her supervisor, Professor Nelson Soares, highlighted that this recognition “is the result of Cleide’s passion for her research topic, her commitment, and the mission of the doctoral programme that we strongly uphold.”

Cleide Costa’s participation and award at ICERA 2025 demonstrate the programme’s and the research centre’s commitment to promoting sustainability, innovation, and the transition towards a circular economy.
