Between 6 and 16 July 2025, researchers from the University of Coimbra (UC), Adélio Gaspar and Bruno Cardoso, took part in a mission to Lúrio University (UL) in Pemba, Mozambique, as part of the AfroEnergy project.

Throughout the mission, training sessions were held for UL students and researchers, focusing on the use of equipment for monitoring indoor environmental quality and energy consumption, acquired within the scope of the project. The aim was to empower participants to carry out monitoring activities in selected households, covering parameters such as particulate matter, CO₂, CO, volatile organic compounds, temperature, and humidity, as well as overall and appliance-specific energy consumption. Technical training was also provided on natural and mechanical ventilation systems.

Project scholarship students (UL) also had the opportunity to present the progress of their final degree projects, which addressed topics such as the energy transition and improving living conditions through the promotion of healthy indoor environments. In parallel, UC researchers visited the construction site of UL’s future centre of excellence, a strategic infrastructure dedicated to advanced training in key areas of the energy transition and industry, essential to the region’s sustainable development.

The mission concluded with the delivery of a photovoltaic system to one of the households included in the project’s case studies. During the visit, the researchers analysed the building's construction characteristics and its usage conditions.
