Macao Polytechnic University / Sino-Lusophone Academy of the University of Coimbra
With the aim of analysing and promoting new opportunities opened up by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan and supporting Macao's role as a Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, the International Portuguese Training Centre of Macao Polytechnic University and the Sino-Lusophone Academy of the University of Coimbra jointly organise a workshop programme with the theme: "New Sino-Lusophone Horizons / 中葡新視野", with the participation of guests from different geographies and academic and professional backgrounds.
In an increasingly interdependent and global world, knowledge and learning are decisive for creating conditions for competitiveness and for the development of territories. At the same time, the new societal challenges require the definition of strategies and the consideration of actors from different spheres of action (education and research, institutions, companies, citizens). Responding to problems with an increasing degree of complexity and in a context of uncertainty and change of today's societies requires the participation of different actors in the search for creative and innovative solutions, considering different theoretical-conceptual frameworks and geographical scales of analysis (from local to global).
Relations between China and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries have been deepening with the establishment of partnerships in the scientific, technological and business fields, mobilising actors from different spheres (universities, research centres, public institutions, companies).
The MPU International Portuguese Training Centre aims to support the work of Macao as a Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. This Centre will provide a range of training and cooperation opportunities to meet the growing needs of Macao, the European Union and the international community in the development of the Greater Bay Area and its global implications.
The mission of the Sino-Lusophone Academy of the University of Coimbra (ASL-UC) is to develop knowledge relevant to the relations between China, Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking Countries. ASL-UC develops regular activities in the field of Sino-Lusophone academic cooperation and hosts the CASS - UC Centre of China Studies (中国社会科学院- 科英布拉大学中国研究中心) and the BFSU-UC Centre for China-Portuguese Speaking Countries (北京外国语大学科英布拉大学中国葡语国家研究中心).
1st Workdhop
The 1st Workshop "New Sino-Lusophone Horizons / 中葡新視野" took place on 19 April 2023 and featured a lecture of Professor Judite Medina do Nascimento, from the University of Cape Verde, on the theme "Cape Verde, an Archipelagic Country: Challenges and perspectives for spatial planning and management".

2nd Workshop
On 12 March 2024, the second online workshop of the series "New Sino-Lusophone Horizons" will welcome as speaker Professor João Luís Fernandes, from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra.
The theme of the workshop is "The Multiple Territories of the Portuguese Language - Brief Notes on the Geography of Lusophony" and it will take place at 10:30 a.m. Portugal' time (6:30 p.m. in Macau).
