On April 27, 2022, the University of Coimbra (UC) welcomed the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Portugal, Zhao Bentang, on the occasion of the presentation of the book A Academia Sino-Lusófona da Universidade de Coimbra.
A private ceremony took place in the Rectory’s Senate Room, with opening speeches by João Nuno Calvão da Silva, Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni at UC, and by Feng Zhongping, Director of the Institute of European Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).
This was followed by a lecture given by Ambassador Zhao Bentang as part of the online Course on Chinese Studies, organized by the CASS-UC Centre of China Studies. The Director of the Sino-Lusophone Academy, Rui de Figueiredo Marcos, was then responsible for the presentation of the book that collects the speeches given in the inaugural conference of the Sino-Lusophone Academy.
The Rector of the University of Coimbra, Amílcar Falcão, closed the ceremony, highlighting the long history of contacts between the University of Coimbra and China and the contemporary efforts to deepen and strengthen academic, cultural and scientific ties between the two countries.
