On 26 May 2023, the University of Coimbra signed academic, scientific and cultural cooperation agreements with a number of institutions of the People's Republic of China and the Macao Special Administrative Region: University of Macau, Renmin University of China, Peking University Health Science Center and Macau Polytechnic University.
The partnerships were signed during the visit to Coimbra of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macau, Ao leong U.
In the Senate Hall, a plaque for the MPU-UC Joint Research Laboratory in Advanced Technologies for Smart Cities, formally established at the end of 2022, was officially unveiled.
