The Macau Documentation and Information Society visited the University of Coimbra on the 29th of September, 2014. The delegation, composed of thirteen persons from the fields of library, archives, historical research, was received by the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Professor Joaquim Ramos de Carvalho and the Vice-Rector for Culture, Communication and Heritage, Professor Clara Almeida Santos.

In addition to the visit to World Heritage sites of the University of Coimbra, the delegation also had the opportunity to visit the exhibition «Do Sul ao Sol» and the storage of the Museum of Anthropology, where they observed items originally from Macau and China.

The delegation participated in a seminar about the management of documentary heritage that took place at the amphitheater of the Science Museum. The University of Coimbra’s assets related to China and Macau were presented by Pedro Casaleiro, from the Science Museum, A.E. Maia do Amaral, from the Central Library of the UC, and Ana Maria Bandeira, from the Archive of the UC.

Professor Simon Chu, spokesperson of UNESCO Memory of the World Programme (Committee for Asia/Pacific) introduced this programme and Helen Ieong, director of the Macau Documentation and Information Society, gave a talk about the Macau Documentary Heritage and the Memory Project.

This visit was valuable learning and exchange opportunity on issues related to documentary heritage protection and management, marking the starting point of possible future collaborations between the Macau Documentation and Information Society and the University of Coimbra.
