Inauguration of the joint Study Centre of the University of Coimbra with the Brazilian Institute of Education, Development, and Research

On 16 April 2025, the cooperation agreement for the establishment of the Study Centre between the University of Coimbra (UC) and the Brazilian Institute of Education, Development, and Research (IDP) was signed in Brasilia by the Vice-Rector for External Relations and Alumni of the University of Coimbra, João Nuno Calvão da Silva, the Dean of the Supreme Court and Founder of IDP, Gilmar Mendes, and the Director-General of IDP, Francisco Schertel Mendes.
The ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Brazilian Institute of Education, Development and Research (IDP), also included speeches by the Vice-President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services of Brazil, Geraldo Alckmin; the Minister of Justice and Public Security of Brazil, Ricardo Lewandowski; the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Brazil, Luciana Santos; the Chargé d'Affaires of the Portuguese Embassy in Brazil, Cristina Matos; the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Leonardo Barchini; and the Director of Planning and Institutional Relations of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), Nelson Henrique Barbosa Filho.
The IDP-UC Study Centre aims to promote exchanges between teachers and researchers, develop research projects and publications, as well as organise conferences, seminars and other joint academic events. The first short training course on Public Regulation has already taken place, given to IDP master's and doctoral students by Pedro Costa Gonçalves, Full Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra.
