Biografia
Ana Boavida is an Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra in Portugal, where she teaches in the undergraduate and master's degree programs in Design and Multimedia. She is an active researcher affiliated with the Computational Design and Visualization Lab (CDV Lab), the Centre for Studies in Architecture (CEARQ), and a full member of the Cognitive and Media Systems group at the Centre for Informatics and Systems (CISUC). Since 2020, Ana has also been a member of the Scientific Committee of the College of Arts at the University of Coimbra. In January 2024, Ana assumed the role of Deputy Director of the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra, where she oversees educational offerings and academic affairs related to the Design and Multimedia programs. Her research interests encompass Graphic Design, Design Theory, Typography, Illustration, Information Visualization, and Design Storytelling. She currently teaches Design Theory at the undergraduate level and Visual Storytelling in the master's program. Ana has advised 25 MSc theses and one PhD dissertation (as of August 2024), with her students receiving recognition, including the Best Thesis in Media Category from the APDC Digital Business Congress. She has co-authored over 10 research articles, which have garnered 49 citations to date (as of August 2024). With over 20 years of professional experience as a graphic designer, Ana has worked on projects in visual identity, exhibition design, and editorial design for clients in Portugal, England, and the USA. She has been honored with several prestigious international design awards, including two Red Dot Design Awards, four AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, a D&AD Award, and Communication Arts Awards of Excellence in Typography and Illustration. Her design work has been featured in exhibitions, magazines, educational textbooks, and is part of the Design and Architecture collection at the Denver Art Museum. Ana Boavida is regularly invited as a keynote speaker, where she shares her expertise on design practice, creativity, and design education.
