Biografia

Architect from the Sapienza University of Rome, he holds a PhD in Conservation of Architectural Heritage from the same university. Since 1990, he has been a researcher at the D'Annunzio University of Chieti–Pescara, where he now works as a Full Professor of Architectural Restoration. Additionally, he has been teaching at the Italian School of Archaeology at Athens and the School of Specialization in Architectural and Landscape Heritage at Sapienza University of Rome since 2017. Varagnoli is the editor of the "Antico/Futuro" series by Gangemi, which publishes research on the methodology and history of architectural restoration, and he is the director of the journal "Opus. Quaderno di storia, architettura, restauro, disegno". He has worked as a consultant on numerous architectural restoration projects, including the interventions on the marble works of Foro Italico and the Fontana della Sfera in Rome, as well as the Palazzo Ardinghelli in L'Aquila. With over 300 publications to his name, his work has appeared in renowned scientific journals such as "Palladio", "Annali di Architettura", "Quaderni dell’Istituto di Storia dell’architettura", "TeMA", "Ananke", and "Ricerche di Storia dell’arte", as well as in national and international editorial works, specializing in studies on restoration and architectural history.
