Biografia
Désirée Pedro, born in Pemba, Mozambique, in 1970, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP) in 1996 and co-founded the Atelier do Corvo with Carlos Antunes, where she has developed her professional career to this day. She serves as the Vice-Director of the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra (CAPC) and the Bienal de Coimbra - Anozero. Pedro was a guest professor at ESAD - Matosinhos from 2007 to 2017 and has been part of the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra (DARQ) since 2013. She is currently a PhD student at DARQ, working on a thesis titled "The Dramaturgy of Space in the Architecture of Atelier do Corvo." Her most significant awards and mentions include the APOM 2001 for the exhibition project of the Museu da Pedra de Cantanhede (2000); the Diogo de Castilho 2007, APOM 2007, Michelleti 2008, and IV ENOR Portugal 2009 for the renovation of the Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Coimbra (2001-2005) in collaboration with João Mendes Ribeiro; the Nuno Teotónio Pereira 2019, Vilalva – Gulbenkian Foundation 2019, and Diogo de Castilho 2019 for the project "Rehabilitation of the Sociedade de Cerâmica Antiga de Coimbra" (2003-2018) in collaboration with Luísa Bebiano Correia; and the Honorable Mention at PNAM’19 for the rehabilitation of the Bell Tower and the Cistern of the Old Castle of Miranda do Corvo (2011-2018). She also received the AICA 2020 award for "Senso: an ephemeral gallery for days of confinement" (2020) and for the renovation and expansion of the Bento Menni Building (2014-2020). Additionally, she was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2022 for the same Bento Menni project and is nominated for the DIVIA 2023, which promotes the visibility of women in architecture.
