Biografia

Joana Maia is an Architect, graduated in 2005 from the Escola Superior Artística do Porto (ESAP) [Artistic College of Porto]. She holds a Master's Degree since 2009 from the Master program "Metodologias de Intervenção no Património Arquitectónico" ["Methodologies of Intervention in Architectural Heritage"], at the Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade do Porto (FAUP) [University of Porto]. She also holds an Advanced Studies degree since 2011 from the PhD program "Cultura Arquitectónica e Urbana" ["Architectural and Urban Culture"], at the Departamento de Arquitectura da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra (Darq-FCTUC) [University of Coimbra], and Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES) [Center of Social Studies] of the same University. She earned her PhD since 2022 from the PhD program "CoimbraStudio: Advance Studies on Architecture and Cities", at the University of Coimbra (Darq-FCTUC and CES). From 2022 to 2023 she taught Geometry at Escola de Arquitectura, Arte e Design da Universidade do Minho (EAAD-UM) [School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho], assuming the position of Coordinator of that Curricular Unit. Since 2019 she has been teaching Geometry at Darq-FCTUC (Architectural Department, University of Coimbra), currently as an invited Assistant Professor. From January 2021 to February 2024, she was a board member of the Portuguese Association APROGED - Associação dos Professores de Geometria e de Desenho [Association of Geometry and Drawing Teachers]. Since January 2024, she is a researcher at the Centre of Architectural Studies - from Territory to Design (CEARQ-TD), of the University of Coimbra. Her research focuses on Composition Processes and the importance of Geometry and Drawing in the practice of Architecture.
