Biografia
João Bicker, with a PhD in Contemporary Art from the University of Coimbra, was part of the founding committee of the Design and Multimedia course at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, where he teaches Typography and History of Design. He is a researcher and creative director at the Computational Design and Visualization Lab, part of the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra. Bicker has exhibited his work in various exhibitions both in Portugal and abroad, including Portugal 1990-2004, Portuguese Architecture & Design at Triennale di Milano in 2004; Gateways: An International Exhibition of Book Covers in Porto in 2008; We Love Books: A World Tour at Centre du Graphisme de Échirolles in 2008; Experimenta Design ‘Revolution 99-09’ in Lisbon in 2010; and Talk to Me at MoMA, New York in 2011. He has received numerous awards, including the Red Dot Award in 2009 and 2010; the National Design Award – Troféu Sena da Silva in Portugal in 2009; European Design Awards in 2010, 2016, 2019, and 2020; AIGA's 50 Books/50 Covers award in New York in 2010 and 2011; Type Directors Club Communication Design award in New York in 2013; and a D&AD Award in 2020. João Bicker is the founder and creative director of FBA., a design studio based in Coimbra, Portugal, where he has developed an extensive and diverse body of work as a designer and art director.
