Biografia
João Paulo Providência is an architect, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of Porto, and an Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra, where he obtained his PhD in 2007. Since 2019, he has been the local coordinator of the Erasmus + EJMAD program in Architecture, Landscape, and Archaeology, in collaboration with the universities of Sapienza in Rome, Federico II in Naples, the Technical University of Athens, and the University of Coimbra. He leads a Project Laboratory focused on interventions in heritage sites. Providência has been a guest critic in project courses at institutions such as KU Leuven/Ghent, ETH Zurich, EPFL Lausanne, KTH Stockholm, UCD Dublin, SAUL Limerick, Sapienza Università di Roma - Valle Giulia, NTUA Athens, Politecnico di Bari, FAUP Porto, among others. He is a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra and was the coordinator of the Cities, Cultures, and Architecture research group from 2014 to 2019. His research interests focus on architectural design processes, healthcare buildings and facilities, and the relationships between architecture, anthropology, archaeology, and landscape.
