Biografia

Joaquim Carlos Pinto de Almeida (born in Porto, 1965) has been a faculty member at the Department of Architecture (DARQ-UC) since 1991. He served as the coordinator for Project I (2016-17) and is currently the coordinator for Atelier Project I-B (4th year), II-B (5th year), and the Project Laboratory (5th year). He holds a degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (1991). He conducted doctoral studies as a research fellow with the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) (2004-2006) in the Doctoral Program at the Department of Architectural Projects at ETSAM, UPMadrid, under the title Teoría y Práctica del Proyecto (2004-2006). He earned his PhD in Architecture from the University of Coimbra (2009), specializing in Architecture and Construction. His research interests focus on architecture, specifically the theory and practice of architectural design, with an emphasis on the tools and discourses of contemporary architecture. He is an integrated PhD researcher at the Centre for Studies in Architecture and Urbanism (CEAU) at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (2011), as part of the Atlas da Casa group. He has published articles on contemporary architecture theory and practice in specialized journals and international conferences (docomomo international, CA2RE+, etc.), and has delivered lectures, presentations, and participated in national and international workshops.
