Biografia
José António Bandeirinha (born in Coimbra, 1958) is an architect graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Porto (1983). He is a practicing architect and a Full Professor at the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra, where he obtained his PhD in 2002 with a dissertation titled O Processo SAAL e a Arquitectura no 25 de Abril de 1974 (The SAAL Process and Architecture in the April 25, 1974 Revolution). With a central focus on architecture and spatial organization, he has dedicated his research to various related themes, including city, housing, theatre, and culture. Bandeirinha regularly publishes and is the author of several books and dozens of articles. He served as the Director of the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra from 2002 to 2004, from 2006 to 2007, and from 2017 to 2021. He was also the Pro-Rector for Culture at the University of Coimbra from 2007 to 2011 and served as the Director of the College of Arts at the same university from 2011 to 2013. He was the Commissioner of the exhibition Fernando Távora Modernidade Permanente, coordinated by Álvaro Siza, which was part of Guimarães European Capital of Culture 2012. Additionally, he served as the Scientific Consultant for the exhibition O Processo SAAL: Arquitectura e Participação 1974-1976, curated by Delfim Sardo and organized by the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montréal, Canada (2014-2015). José António Bandeirinha has been actively researching the urban and architectural consequences of political practices, with a particular emphasis on 20th-century Portugal.
