Researcher at the Centre of Architectural Studies - from Territory to Design (CEARQ-TD), of the University of Coimbra. Starting professional practice in 1986 in S. Miguel, Azores, set a course for all my career. In the agency of the Azores Government for social housing I learned how to design with minimum resources. After 1988 I worked for a private company in Lisbon and in 1993 started my own studio. The single family house in relation to the cultural place and landscape has been the main subject of Research by Design. In urban scale I have also investigated the relationship between the sea and the city, particularly in Figueira da Foz, setting the gaze in the sea places like fishing spots, waves and currents. Since my PhD the main subject of Landscape History research has been the Island of S. Miguel, Azores, in relation to architecture, landscape and western culture of the 19th. century. I have been a teacher at Darq-UC since 1991. I was responsible for the 1st and 2nd years and today I am responsible for a Design Studio for the 4th and 5th years of the Master in Architecture. Associate Professor since 2021.
