Biografia

Rui Pedro Mexia Lobo completed his PhD in Architecture in 2010 at the University of Coimbra and his Bachelor's degree in Architecture in 1994 at the same institution. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) and serves as the Vice-Coordinator of the Doctorate in Architecture program at FCTUC. He teaches courses on History of Architecture I and II, History of Portuguese Architecture I and II (Integrated Master's in Architecture), Theory and History of Architecture and Urbanism Seminar I and II (Doctorate in Architecture), and Restoration Narratives (Erasmus+ Master's in Architecture, Landscape & Archaeology). He is a researcher at the Center for Social Studies-UC, where he was Vice-Director from 2022 to 2023. He has published four books as an author and two as a co-editor. He has authored 11 articles in specialized journals, contributed 14 chapters in foreign books, and 16 chapters in books published in Portugal, both as an author and co-author. He has presented communications at 18 scientific events abroad as an author and co-author, and at 27 events in Portugal. He has co-supervised two completed doctoral theses and currently supervises and co-supervises seven doctoral theses. He has participated as an examiner in 14 doctoral thesis juries, two abroad and eight at Portuguese universities other than UC. He has supervised and co-supervised 68 master's dissertations and has guided 21 undergraduate final projects. He was the Principal Investigator of the FCT Project 30704 SANTACRUZ - 3D digital reconstruction of the Santa Cruz Monastery in Coimbra in 1834, from 2018 to 2022, and has participated as a researcher in three other competitively funded projects in Portugal and Spain. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal "Monumentos" of the DGPC, the advisory board of the project "Conimbricenses.org," the Scientific Council of the international congress "Casa Nobre – a heritage for the future," and serves as a scientific consultant for the Science Museum of UC. His work focuses on the Theory and History of Architecture and Urbanism. He has conducted research on topics related to the History of Portuguese Architecture (from the 15th to the 18th centuries), the history of university architecture and urbanism, and the history of Jesuit architecture. He has also written about rehabilitation and heritage.
