Biografia
Walter Rossa (Caracas, 1962) holds a degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Lisbon (1985), a master's degree in Art History from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at the New University of Lisbon (1991), and a PhD and aggregation in Architecture from the University of Coimbra (2001 and 2013). At the University of Coimbra, he is a researcher at the Center for the History of Society and Culture (2021) and a professor in the PhD program in Heritage of Portuguese Influence (2010), which he co-coordinated until 2023. He has been a full professor in the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Coimbra since 2017, teaching courses in Design, Urbanism, and History. He has been a visiting professor at various universities and has supervised 85 theses, including 16 doctoral dissertations. He is the coordinator, author, and co-author of publications in Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, and French on the theory and history of urbanism, land use planning, and the history of architecture and cultural heritage. His research has developed along two closely related lines: one dedicated to urban planning influenced by Portugal and another focused on urban planning in heritage contexts. He seeks to establish interactions between his research and teaching activities and cooperation actions for development through the UNESCO Chair in Intercultural Dialogue on the Heritage of Portuguese Influence, which he has held since 2019. He is also the holder of the Cunha Rivara Chair at the University of Goa (2017) and a specialist member of the International Committee of Historic Cities and Towns [CIVVIH] of ICOMOS (2016).
