Abstract
The LUDICo: Le quartier des spectacles de Conimbriga project is now part of a wider archaeological exploration of the site being carried out by the Museu Monográfico de Conimbriga (MMC). This project focuses on the main structures (monuments) and infrastructures (roads and sewers) that organised the entertainment district.
The LUDICo project, dealing with the evolution of a performance district within an ancient city, fits in with both Axis I - City, community, conflictuality and Axis III - Heritage, legacies, rewriting. The history of performance monuments often reflects competition between different communities, as they constitute a space of competition between the evergetes and form a space of representation of the powers within the city. The archaeological site of Conimbriga, which in turn acted as Portugal's archaeological showcase under the Salazarist regime, then as a laboratory for European scientific collaboration during the Franco-Portuguese excavations, also provides an opportunity to reflect on the status and possible re-readings of a heritage from one political regime to another.
