Find out about the different types of internships we have for you!
This is an excellent opportunity to experience a work environment, through direct contact with the general environment of an organization.
- Recipients: All UC students
- Period: Between May 1st and October 31st
- Duration: Between 140 hours and 420 hours
- Note: Students enrolled in isolated curricular units or in a mobility program must complete their internship by August 31st.
- Application period: From March 15 to 30 (to be confirmed annually)
- How to apply: Through InforEstudante, under the option "Academic Desk > Summer Internships".
- Announcement of results (in InforEstudante): By the end of April (to be confirmed annually). Only students with active enrollment (who have not completed their studies) may attend a summer internship. For full details, including how candidates will be selected, see the regulations here.
- Conditions: The UC provides insurance for this purpose. Each institution may independently define other forms of support, such as a meal allowance.
- Certification: Summer internships are mentioned in the Diploma Supplement or confer the right to a certificate for students enrolled in isolated curricular units and students on a mobility program. Failure to complete the internship without prior justification from the host organization and the Student Hub Special Project will prevent the internship from taking place in the following academic year.
Several UC study plans provide for the possibility of curricular internships. Like summer internships, they can be an excellent opportunity to try out possible areas of activity, enrich your CV and develop knowledge that could increase your employability.

- Application period: Submit a self-proposal at least 15 days in advance
- Mandatory requirements: The timetable defined for the internship must not overlap with the timetable of the teaching component
- Conditions: The UC provides insurance for this purpose. Each institution may independently define other forms of support, such as a meal allowance.
- Certification: Continuous training internships are mentioned in the Diploma Supplement or confer the right to a certificate for students enrolled in isolated curricular units and students on a mobility program. Internships lasting 9 months, non-extendable, with a view to promoting the integration of young people into the labor market or the retraining of unemployed people. [Information Sheet; Ordinance in Diário da República]
Aimed at young people up to and including the age of 30, measured at the start date of the traineeship (or 35 for people with disabilities) and who have a qualification corresponding to at least level 6 (degree) of the National Qualifications Framework.
INOV Contacto is an international internship program aimed at young people with higher education and companies that want to strengthen their teams with Portuguese talent. Professional internships take place anywhere in the world, for 6 to 9 months, in which young people develop their skills in the international market and organizations benefit from highly qualified human capital to boost their business.
PEJENE is an internship program promoted by the Youth Foundation for young people in their final and penultimate year of higher education in all academic areas.
This is a commitment to gradually offer young people a job, further education, vocational training or an apprenticeship within 4 months of leaving education or the job market.
Empreende XXI supports the creation and development of new business projects, up to 85% of the total eligible amount, 40% via a non-refundable subsidy and 45% via an interest-free loan. The remaining 15% must be provided by equity. Support from the IEFP cannot exceed 200,000 euros.
PAECPE is a program to support the creation of their own job/business by beneficiaries who are involuntarily unemployed and receiving unemployment benefits.
The support consists of the total or partial anticipation of unemployment benefits, which can be combined with other measures, such as access to easier credit with more advantageous conditions (MicroInvest and Invest+).
EURES is the European network of employment services which aims to facilitate worker mobility and recruitment at transnational and cross-border level, within the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.

Where can I find the available summer internship opportunities?
The list of all available opportunities is available at
www.uc.pt/empregabilidade/estagios/.
At the time of application on Inforestudante, only the opportunities that match the student’s profile will be displayed.
If you wish to undertake a summer internship that is not included in the list (self-proposed internship), you may contact organisations directly from May onwards. More information on self-proposed internships is provided below.
I finish my degree before the summer. Can I still undertake a summer internship?
To undertake a summer internship, the intern must be covered by School Insurance. As University of Coimbra students remain covered by School Insurance until the end of the academic year in which they complete their degree, you may still undertake a summer internship, provided it does not extend beyond 31 August, the end of the academic year.
I am a mobility student or enrolled only in isolated course units. Can I undertake a summer internship?
Yes, students in these situations may undertake summer internships. However, in these cases, the internship will not be recorded in the Diploma Supplement, but instead recognised through the issuance of a certificate.
Where can I check the result of my summer internship application?
After receiving notification of the internship placements, you may consult the result of your application under “Applications” in the “Summer Internships” menu.
I have been placed in a summer internship. What should I do?
First, you should wait to be contacted by the host organisation where you have been placed.
Before the internship begins, you must ensure that you have received and signed both the Internship Plan and the Internship Agreement (these are separate documents), together with the host organisation.
These documents are essential to ensure that UC School Insurance is active during the internship period.
Note: All documents are signed using the Digital Mobile Key, so you should activate it in advance.
I was not placed in any internship. What can I do?
You will have the opportunity to apply for remaining vacancies, as well as new opportunities that may arise and will be published as self-proposed internships, in a list to be made available at
https://www.uc.pt/empregabilidade/estagios/.
You may also contact organisations directly to propose a self-proposed internship from May onwards.

If the internship opportunity is listed on the Student Hub – Employability page, you should send your updated CV to estagios@uc.pt, indicating the internship you wish to apply for.

If the opportunity is not listed, the initial contact with the host organisation must always be made by the student.
Which documents must be submitted during the internship process?

Internship Plan (available here), to be completed and signed by the host organisation and the intern at least 15 days before the start of the internship;

Internship Agreement, drafted after receipt of the completed Internship Plan and sent by our service to the host organisation, to be signed by all parties using the Digital Mobile Key by the first day of the internship;

Attendance Sheet, sent by our service to the host organisation before the internship begins.
All documents must be sent to estagios@uc.pt.
Note: If any of these documents are not signed and submitted, the summer internship will not be validated.
I want to undertake a self-proposed summer internship. What should I do?
After contacting the host organisation and receiving confirmation of acceptance, you must send an email to estagios@uc.pt with this information, attaching the Internship Plan (available here), completed and signed at least 15 days before the internship start date.
The remainder of the process follows the same procedures as internships assigned through Inforestudante.
Is an internship report required?
Summer internships do not require the submission of an internship report.
Am I subject to any type of evaluation?
Summer internships are not subject to any evaluation. A satisfaction survey will be sent by email to interns and host organisations for optional completion.
Can I undertake an internship outside the period from 1 May to 31 October?
Internships carried out outside the period from 1 May to 31 October are considered continuous training internships. Further information on this type of internship is provided below.
I would like to change the internship end date. How can I do this?

If you wish to extend the internship, you must request the change via estagios@uc.pt. An Addendum to the Internship Agreement, signed using the Digital Mobile Key by both the host organisation and the intern, will be required.
Note: This change is only possible if the total duration does not exceed 420 hours.

If you wish to end the internship earlier, you must inform the host organisation and ensure that the Attendance Sheet with the completed hours is submitted.
Note: For the internship to be recorded in the Diploma Supplement, a minimum of 140 hours must be completed.
How and when is my internship recognised? Where can I check this information?
The internship is recognised in the Diploma Supplement, which is available for download upon completion of the degree via Inforestudante, under “Academic Services” → “Documents”.
Before downloading the Diploma and Diploma Supplement (subject to a fee), you should confirm that the internship is listed under “Activities” in “Academic Records” on Inforestudante.
I am a mobility student or enrolled only in isolated course units. Can I undertake a continuous training internship?
Yes, students in these situations may undertake continuous training internships. However, in these cases, the internship will not be recorded in the Diploma Supplement, but instead recognised through the issuance of a certificate.
I have already contacted a host organisation and it has accepted my internship. What should I do?
You must send an email with this information to estagios@uc.pt, attaching the Internship Plan (available here), completed and signed by both the host organisation and the intern at least 15 days before the internship start date.
Before the internship begins, you must ensure that you have received and signed the Internship Agreement, together with the host organisation. These documents are essential to ensure that UC School Insurance is active during the internship period.

Internships carried out between 1 May and 31 October with a minimum of 140 hours are always classified as summer internships;

Internships carried out between 1 May and 31 October with fewer than 140 hours are classified as continuous training internships;

Internships carried out outside this period (November to April) are classified as continuous training internships;

Internships that span both periods (e.g. starting in February and ending in May) are classified as continuous training internships.
Can I undertake a continuous training internship after completing my degree?
To undertake a continuous training internship, the intern must be covered by School Insurance. As University of Coimbra students remain covered by School Insurance until the end of the academic year in which they complete their degree, you may still undertake a continuous training internship, provided it does not extend beyond 31 August, the end of the academic year.
