Architecture Archive | UC
The Architecture Archive of the University of Coimbra — AAUC — is based in the Department of Architecture. Born within this school of architecture, its underlying principles do not differ significantly from those of most other archives: to organize and preserve documents for posterity. Starting in 2017, in response to both internal and external needs, DARQ began collecting individual and collective holdings that document architectural activity in the region. Thus, the projects of architects and firms responsible for building the modern and contemporary city, the plans of urban planners who shaped the city throughout the 20th century, and the architectural output of some professors — often developed alongside their academic careers — can now be archived, catalogued, and later studied by the wider scientific and cultural community. Some research projects are already underway, with many more to follow. The intention is to proceed with steady steps, taken within the limits of what is possible for this organic subunit, fully dedicated to teaching and research, yet firmly determined to achieve its goal — the consolidation of the AAUC.
