José Pedro Lima | Prémio Manuel Graça Dias dst
Architect José Pedro Lima, Guest Professor at DARQ, has been awarded the Manuel Graça Dias Prize | Young Architect First Work 24/25.
The award ceremony will take place on April 29 at 5:00 PM in the Domingos da Silva Teixeira Auditorium in Braga.
The jury of the Manuel Graça Dias Prize, dst – Order of Architects, First Work, 2nd edition 2024-2025, composed of architects Egas José Vieira (President), José Manuel Carvalho Araújo, and Patrícia Rocha Leite, unanimously awarded the prize to José Pedro Lima for his work Garden Pavilion. Form | Foyer.
The jury highlighted the author's approach, demonstrating consistency, balance, and maturity in his first architectural work. The project stands out for its unconventional yet refined approach, clearly defining architecture as a way to organize, appropriate, and inhabit space. Located on a typical Porto plot, the project introduces a new structure that redefines the relationship between the main house, its inhabitants, and the garden. Positioned between two levels, the pavilion serves as a foyer, offering complementary living spaces and extending the living room into the garden. The solution is bold, using color in an audacious yet delicate way, creating a space that remains intimate, familiar, and tranquil. The jury also recognized the careful site analysis, programmatic considerations, and construction control in the project. Additionally, by unanimous decision, the jury gave honorable mentions to three other projects out of a total of 32 submissions: Casa Aurora by André Azevedo; Casa Luzim by Juliano Ribas and Cíntia Guerreiro; Ladeirinha by Elói Gonçalves.
