Biografia

Adelino Gonçalves (1970) holds a degree in Architecture (1995) and a PhD in Architecture (2012) from the University of Coimbra (UC). He is an Associate Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) and an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at UC. He is responsible for course units in Urbanism within the Integrated Master in Architecture and for the Master’s in Integrated Urban Rehabilitation, which he founded and coordinates. He also oversees course units in the PhD program City and Urban Cultures at UC, the Integrated Master in Architecture at M_EIA – International School of Arts, Technology and Culture (Cape Verde), and the Master’s in Territory Development and Urban Management at Lúrio University (Mozambique). His research focuses on urban policies, particularly the integration of urban rehabilitation and heritage conservation into urban development. Within this field, he has coordinated and participated in several projects and is the author and co-author of numerous publications across different editorial lines. Notably, he authored Património Urban(ístic)o e Desenvolvimento (Urban(istic) Heritage and Development), published by the Press of the University of Coimbra in 2018. He is also a founding member of the Heritage and Development Initiative: History, Policies, and Techniques at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research of the University of Coimbra.
