Biografia
Ana Boavida is a graphic designer, researcher, and educator. She holds a degree in Fine Arts/Graphic Design and a PhD in Contemporary Art/Book Cover Design. She has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Coimbra since 2011, teaching in the undergraduate and master’s degree courses in Design and Multimedia. In these courses, she proposed the course units Theory of Design and Communication and Visual Narratives, for which she is the responsible professor. She also teaches Project III and Typography. She is a full member of the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC) and the Cognitive and Media Systems group, as well as a senior designer and researcher at the Computational Design and Visualization Laboratory. Her research interests include Graphic Design, Design Theory, Typography, Illustration, Visual Storytelling, and Information Visualization. With over twenty years of practice as a graphic designer, she has developed projects in the fields of visual identity, exhibition, and editorial design for a wide variety of clients in both the public and private sectors, in countries such as Portugal, the UK, and the USA. She is the recipient of several international awards, including a D&AD Award, two European Design Awards, two Red Dot Design Awards, four AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers granted by the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and the Communication Arts Award of Excellence in both Typography and Illustration. Her work has been featured in exhibitions, magazines, and design educational textbooks. She has also participated as a keynote speaker on topics related to design practice.
