Biografia
Artur Rebelo, graphic designer, educator and researcher, holds a PhD in Contemporary Art from the College of Arts of the University of Coimbra and lectures in the Undergraduate and Master's degrees in Design and Multimedia at the Faculty of Science and Technology. Member of the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC) and of the Computational Design and Visualization Lab. (CDV). Co-founder with Lizá Ramalho of R2 (design studio from Porto). In this 20-year period of practice, has collaborated with cultural institutions (art, architecture, theatre), several authors, artists, architects, scientists and researchers on very diverse projects, developing visual identities, editorial design, posters, exhibition design, signage systems and web and motion projects. Work also extends to curating exhibitions, book publishing and installations in public spaces. In conjunction with Lizá Ramalho, Artur Rebelo coordinated several workshops and participated in various conferences in design festivals, institutes and universities — Européenne Supérieure d’Art de Bretagne (France), École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (Switzerland), School of Visual Arts (USA) or Art Institute of Chicago (USA). Some of these projects are now part of collections of important museums — Musée des Arts Decoratifs (France), Hong Kong Heritage Museum (China), Deutsches Plakat Museum (Germany) or Museum für Gestaltung (Switzerland) —, appearing regularly in publications about art and design and participating in numerous national and international exhibitions. These projects have been awarded prestigious prizes, such as the Grand Prix of Brno Biennale (Czech Republic), Gold Prize at the International Poster Triennal of Toyama, Japan, European Agency of the Year, European Design Awards, 3rd prize at the Festival International de l’Affiche et des Arts Graphiques de Chaumont, several Premier Awards granted by ISTD – International Society of Typographic Designers (United Kingdom) and several prizes awarded by the SEGD – Society for Environmental Graphic Design (USA). Member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) since 2007.
