Biografia
Carolina Ferreira (Coimbra, 1982) is an architect and Invited Assistant at the Department of Architecture (DARQ) of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of Coimbra, where she earned her degree in 2007. She is currently preparing to defend her PhD dissertation, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), entitled What Do Students Tell Us? Stories about School Architecture in Portugal, supervised by Gonçalo Canto Moniz and António Rochette Cordeiro. Her work focuses on spatial analysis from the users’ perspective, particularly examining school spaces through the lens of students. She explores spatial mapping using descriptive methods (narrative and graphic), which she believes may become impactful tools for the modernization of school environments. These spatial diagnostic methods can also inform political decisions on the spatial management of urban and educational territories. She was part of Albena Yaneva’s doctoral research group as a Visiting Researcher at the School of Environment, Education and Development, University of Manchester (from October 1 to November 30, 2019). She also joined the UC team in the European project Collaborative Redesign with Schools, coordinated by Newcastle University and funded by Erasmus Plus. Her scientific domain is Architecture and Design. Her research areas include Educational Spatialities; School Architecture; Spatial and Narrative Mapping; the Phenomenology of School Space; Story Analysis; and Actor-Network Theory (ANT). She runs her own architecture studio — 3vo Consultores de Arquitetura — where she develops architectural projects across various domains.
