Biografia

Guilherme Machado Vaz (Porto, 1974) graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (FAUP), in 1998, and received a PhD in Architecture from the Lusófona University of Porto in 2020. He was a collaborator in Eduardo Souto Moura's studio, between 1996 and 1997, and architect at the Municipal Council of Matosinhos between 2000 and 2021. He carried out, among other works, the project for the Custóias Civic Center, the Custóias Football Field, the pavilion in Jardim Basílio Teles and, in 2017, the Reconversion of the Wine Company Portuguese - where the Casa da Arquitetura and the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos (OJM) are located - winning the IRHU National Rehabilitation Award and an honorable mention in the FAD Awards.  He was Assistant Professor of Design in the Architecture Course at the Universidade Lusófona do Porto, between 2012 and 2021, Guest Professor at the Politécnico di Milano, in 2017, and Guest Professor at the University of Navarra, Pamplona, in 2019. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture from the University of Coimbra since 2021.  In his studio he has developed housing projects such as Casa do Vale in Vieira do Minho, four houses in 'Bom Sucesso, Golf Resort and Spa' (Óbidos) as a local architect for David Chipperfield Architects, the rehabilitation of a house in Foz do Douro (Porto), a house in Afife, among others.  He is a guest lecturer at Portuguese and foreign institutions. He was a member of the jury for the FAD Iberian Architecture Award (Barcelona), in 2008, and tutor at the Porto Academy 2015 (FAUP) and Wa.ve 2016 (IUAV Venezia) workshops. Finalist in several Portuguese and foreign architecture awards, his works are published online and in national and international architecture magazines. Exhibition dedicated to his work at Roger Williams University (USA) in 2023.  He was President of the Board of the General Assembly of the Order of Architects (2020-2023).
