Biografia

João Bicker, with a PhD in Contemporary Art from the University of Coimbra, was a part of the Founding Committee of the Design and Multimedia Course at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra, where he teaches Typography and Design History courses. He is an investigator and creative director of the Computational Design and Visualization Lab at the Center for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra. He has participated in various exhibitions both in Portugal and abroad, including events like "Portugal 1990-2004, Portuguese Architecture & Design" in 2004 at the Triennale di Milano; "Gateways: An International Exhibition of Book Covers" in 2008 in Porto; "We Love Books: a world tour" at the Center for Graphic Design in Échirolles in 2008; "Experimenta Design ‘Revolution 99-09’" in 2010 in Lisbon; and "Talk to Me" at MoMA, New York in 2011. He has received several notable awards, including the Red Dot Award in 2009 and 2010; National Design Award – Sena da Silva Trophy, Portugal, 2009; European Design Awards in 2010, 2016, 2019, and 2020; 50 books/50 covers from AIGA, New York in 2010 and 2011; Type Directors Club Communication Design Award, New York in 2013; and D&AD Awards in 2020. He is the founder and creative director of the FBA. studio in Coimbra, Portugal. At FBA., he has undertaken extensive and diverse work as a designer and art director.
