Biografia

João Miraldo Crisóstomo (Coimbra, 1985) holds a Bologna Master’s degree in architecture from the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra and had an exchange year under Erasmus program at TU Delft, in the Netherlands (2006/2007). Was part of NU Magazine editorial board from 2003 to 2008 and was its director in 2007/2008. Collaborated with Atelier Pedra Líquida from 2008 to 2012 and with MVCC Arquitectos from 2012 to 2014. Is co-founder of depA architects collective with Carlos Azevedo and Luís Sobral, where is dedicated to several architectural practices. From depA’s works the following should  be highlighted: Casa da Cultura de Pinhel (Pinhel House of Culture), winner of the prize for best museum practice and an honourable mention by the Portuguese Association of Museology (2016); Casa do Rosário (Rosário House), winner of the Concreta Under 40 award (2017), honourable mention in the Nuno Teotónio Pereira prize (2019) and honourable mention in the João de Almada Prize (2019); and the Pavilhão do Lago (Lake Pavilion), winner of the FAD awards - Ephemeral category (2018). In addition, seeks to keep practice and reflection relevant by taking part in competitions, special moments for wide-ranging and compelling research. From the competitions, the following should be highlighted: 1st prize  for the design of Santiago Ydañez Museum of Contemporary Art (2010), in Jaén, Spain; 2nd prize for the rehabilitation of Quinta de Baixo (2014), in Porto, and 1st prize for the design of the Mechanized Pedestrian Paths (2017), in Porto, both in collaboration with Pablo Pita Architects. Has lectured on Project I as guest assistant at the Architecture Department of the University of Coimbra since 2018.
