Biografia

José Fernando Gonçalves was born in Vilas Nova de Gaia in 1963. He graduated in Architecture from FAUP in 1988, completed his APCC Examinations at the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (DARQ-FCTUC) in 1996, and earned a PhD in Architectural Projects from UPC, Barcelona, in 2007. He served as Director of DARQ-FCTUC from 2008 to 2010 and as President of the Ordem dos Arquitetos – Northern Regional Section (SRN) from 2011 to 2013. He is a founding member and Secretary of the AEAULP – Association of Schools of Architecture and Urbanism of Portuguese-Speaking Countries. He has been an Associate Professor at DARQ-FCTUC since 1991, where he is the coordinator of the Atelier de Projeto I course (4th year) of the Integrated Master’s in Architecture (MIA). He is also a member of the Ethics Committee of CES-UC, a Researcher at CES, and a Professor in the Doctoral Program and Research Seminar. He was a Visiting Professor at the Facoltà di Architettura “Aldo Rossi” di Cesena, Università “Alma Mater Studiorum” of Bologna, Italy, in 2011/2012, and at the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris for three semesters between 2015 and 2016. He has published scientific articles, books, and works in national and international journals and has participated in conferences and workshops in Portugal and abroad.
