Biografia
Luís Sobral (Pinhel, 1985) holds a Master’s degree from DARQ (University of Coimbra), 2009 and had an exchange year under Erasmus programme on École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, in Switzerland. In 2007, worked in the studio José Gigante Arquitecto and, between 2008 and 2015, worked for Pedra Líquida studio, developing projects in partnership and co-authorship, with special focus on rehabilitation projects. Co-founded the collective depA Architects, which runs in partnership with Carlos Azevedo and João Cristóstomo. In depA, focuses on researching architectural practice, some examples of which are the Casa da Cultura de Pinhel (Pinhel House of Culture), winner of the prize for best museography project and an honourable mention for best museum by Portuguese Association of Museology (2016), Casa do Rosário (Rosário House), winner of the Concreta Under 40 Award (2017), honourable mention in Nuno Teotónio Pereira Prize in 2019 and honourable mention in João de Almada Prize in 2019 and Pavilhão do Lago (Lake Pavilion), winner of the FAD Awards, in 2018, and was selected to be exhibited in the Portuguese Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. Simultaneously, in depA seeks to keep practice and research relevant by taking part in competitions, among them is the first prize awarded for the design of the Santiago Ydañez Museum of Contemporary Art (2010), in Jaén, Spain; the second place in public tender for renewal of Quinta de Baixo (2014), in Porto, and first place for the design of the Mechanized Pedestrian Paths (2017), in collaboration with Pablo Pita architects. In 2001, was co-curator of the Portuguese Pavilion at 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia with the project In Conflict. Has been an invited assistant lecturer in the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra since 2018, where he lectures on Project and Construction.
