Paul David Hardman

Biografia

Paul David Hardman is a communication designer, illustrator, author and researcher. He holds a degree in Graphic Arts from Liverpool Art School (JMU), an MA in Graphic Design from Camberwell College of Arts (UAL), and a Ph.D in Contemporary Art from the University of Coimbra, where he has taught on the Design and Multimedia course since 2013. He is a member of the Information Systems group of CISUC and his research focuses on design pedagogy; and contemporary typography, illustration, and design practice. Key publications include the paper: Framing Design Education within the Contemporary Paradigm (2017); and The Transformative Potential of the Ongoing Digital Revolution for the Studio Model of Design Education (2022). His professional design activities are conducted under the name Studio And Paul, which include many projects in cultural fields, such as the visual identities for Criatek: Festival of Creativity and Digital Technology; Linha de Fuga: Festival of Performing Arts; and the theatre company Teatrão, who he has worked with since 2016, designing the company’s visual identity and the images for all of its original productions. His illustration practice includes the books Palavras Viageiras (Xerefé, 2016) and O Pequeno País dos Frutos (Leya, 2019) both by João Pedro Mésseder. His graphic works have been featured in many international exhibitions and publications.
