Biografia

Pedro Maurício Borges (Lisbon, 1963) has lectured at DARQ-UC, Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra, since 1991, while working as an architect with own studio since 1993. Was responsible for Architectural Design I (2010-11) and II (2013-18) and director of Cearq, Centre for Studies in Architecture (2013-18), the research lab of Darq-UC, where supervised the students’ project Há Baixa (HAB 16 and 17). Research interests include Landscape History, Landscape and Architecture of the Azores and of the 19th century, notably picturesque villa architecture. PhD delved into the landscape history of the island of S. Miguel, Azores, where most of his architectural work has been built. Past projects include Montemor-o-Velho Library, Chapel of Santa Filomena in Ferreira-a-Nova and several houses in S. Miguel, Azores, including the Pacheco de Melo, Fonseca Macedo, Red House, Atalhada and Quinta da Tília houses. The first and last ones were awarded the 2002 Secil Prize and the Big Mat’17 Public Prize. Also won the Ex-aequo Revelation Prize in the National Architecture Awards, First Works 1998, with a Pavilion for the Azores Fair and integrated the Portuguese representation to São Paulo Biennale of Architecture in 2009 with the design of a School for Cacheu, Guiné-Bissau.
