Biografia

Susana Lobo (Lourenço Marques, 1973). Architect, graduated from DARQ-FCTUC (2002), has been teaching there since 1998 and is currently Assistant Professor. Holds a PhD in Architecture, specializing in Theory and History of Architecture, from the University of Coimbra (2013) with the dissertation “Architecture and Tourism: plans and projects. The leisure scenographies on the Portuguese coast, from the 1st Republic to Democracy”, in the context of which received a FCT grant and was awarded an Honorable Mention by the André Jordan Award. Since 2015, has been part of the PhD program Coimbra Studio at DArq-FCTUC and is responsible for the course unit of Urbanism, Architecture and Tourism. Is a researcher at CITUA-IST/UL and an associate researcher at CES-UC. Is part of the research project “SANTACRUZ: 3D digital reconstruction of the Monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra in 1834” (PTDC / ART-DAQ / 30704/2017); and is a contributor to the “What Fascism?” module of the research project “(EU)ROPA: Rise of Portuguese Architecture” (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-03492).  Is the author of Pousadas de Portugal: Reflexos da Arquitetura Portuguesa do Século XX (Coimbra: Universidade Press, 2007) and of Risco Interior: o desenho de mobiliário na Cidade Universitária de Coimbra (Coimbra: Edições Almedina, 2015). From 2014 to 2016, was a member of the Architects Nucleus of the Region of Coimbra, having been the scientific coordinator of the publication Construir a Paisagem: O povoamento florestal da costa entre Mira e Quiaios (NARC/OA-SRN, 2016) and author of the monographs José Isaías Cardoso: Um moderno na Figueira da Foz (NARC/OA-SRN, 2016) and Vasco Cunha: O Arquiteto e a sua Cidade (NARC/OA-SRN, 2017). Also for the Portuguese Association of Architects, was General Curator of “Habitar Portugal 2012-17: Public Space” (winning application by competition).  Was guest editor of the Docomomo Journal 60: “Architectures of the Sun” (2019) and has contributed to several national and international architecture journals and publications. Research focuses on Portuguese Architecture, Urbanism and Design of the 20th century, with a specialization in tourism and leisure infrastructure.
