Biografia
Walter Rossa (Caracas, 1962) is a Portuguese architect (1985), master in History of Art (1991), PhD and aggregation in Architecture (2001 and 2013). Is a full professor at the Department of Architecture and researcher at the Centre for the History of Society and Culture of the University of Coimbra. At UC, co-coordinates the PhD programme Patrimónios de Influência Portuguesa (Heritages of Portuguese Influence, 2010); holds the UNESCO Chair in Intercultural Dialogue in Heritages of Portuguese Influence (2019); and teaches courses on cultural heritage, town and regional planning, urban design, urban history and research in architecture. Was a visiting professor at several national and foreign universities and has supervised 80 academic dissertations, including 15 PhD theses. Co-holds the Cunha Rivara Chair at Goa University and is an Expert Member of the ICOMOS CIVVIH, International Committee on Historic Towns and Villages. In addition to past activity as a practicing architect and town planner, Walter Rossa researches the theory and history of architecture and urbanism, especially on town planning, the landscape and cultural heritage of the former Iberian colonial universe. Has edited, authored, and co-authored Portuguese, English, Spanish, Italian, and French publications. Based on the UNESCO Chair held, Walter Rossa dedicated last year’s research efforts to cooperation and the operative relation between heritage, history, planning, and development, seeking to establish interactions between his academic activity and development cooperation actions. This leads to development of the concepts of designing history, hyper-design, and the urbanistic analysis trio structure, form and image.
