The presentation of the final video of the SANTACRUZ Project will take place at Café Santa Cruz on July 12 (Friday) at 7:00 PM, and on July 13 (Saturday) at 12:00 PM.
The SANTACRUZ Project aimed to study the former Monastery of Santa Cruz, one of Portugal's main religious houses, and its situation in 1834, the year when male religious orders were abolished and their property was integrated into the State, sold, or sent to museums. As a consequence, significant parts of the former monastery were destroyed in the following decades. The City Hall building, now adjacent to the monastic church, was constructed between 1876-1879 over the Renaissance cloister entrance. Other elements were lost, such as the library, Renaissance dormitories, and the imposing bell tower, which was demolished in 1935.
The project was coordinated by Rui Lobo (DARQ-CES/UC) and involved a multidisciplinary team.
