This issue of Joelho publishes the presentations given at the International Colloquium Intersecções: Antropologia e Arquitectura / Crisscrossing Anthropology and Architecture, which was part of the Autumn Colloquia promoted by the Rector of the University of Coimbra. The event took place in the Rectorate Auditorium over two sessions on November 23 and 24, 2009. In addition to the presentations, this issue also includes the debate that followed the sessions, as well as a set of later commentaries that frame and open perspectives on the colloquium and its discussions. The invitations extended to the speakers, who naturally included both architects and anthropologists, aimed to bring together two distinct approaches—one that we might call modern, which saw action or intervention in reality as its primary field, and another, which we might call critical, that sought to deconstruct the reciprocal appropriations of discourses. Rather than simply taking stock of the current state of the field, the colloquium aimed to serve as a starting point, a foundation from which a debate on interdisciplinary intersections could begin. This intent is reflected in the transcription of the discussions that followed the presentations.
