Synopsis

The journal JOELHO explores the theme Journey-Memory: Architectural Learning based on two exhibitions held at the Coimbra School (Department of Architecture, FCTUC) by two of the founding professors of the Architecture program, Alexandre Alves Costa and Domingos Tavares.

The exhibition Journey: In Memory of Fernando Távora, curated by Alexandre Alves Costa, traces key themes developed by the professor at the Porto School and later brought to the Coimbra School—Portugal, Távora, School, Drawing, Designing, Coimbra.

The exhibition Memories: Reasons and Meaning of Learning in Architecture, curated by Domingos Tavares, presents a journey through six architects who shaped architectural education throughout the 1960s, each associated with a pedagogical concept—Fernando Távora (Culture), Jorge Gigante (Construction), Nuno Portas (Science), Álvaro Siza (Theory), Viana de Lima (Drawing), and Carlos Almeida (Commitment).

These two exhibitions, published in full in the journal, frame a collection of articles on Architectural Learning, reflecting on themes, processes, and methodologies related to architectural education.

In addition to invited articles, two author-submitted articles will also be included.
